About Berghofer Mühle

For Styrian specialities

This historic mill is located at an idyllic spot on the River Raab. Old records prove that it has been at work since at least the 12th century. The mill has been run by the Berghofer family for six generations, meaning that they are experts for wheat, rye and spelt products, and also for one of the most famous of all Styrian specialities: pumpkinseed oil. They even grow some of the ingredients for their natural products themselves. Old tried-and-tested working methods are then used in combination with sophisticated modern technology in this traditional mill. The high-quality products that are so carefully produced here are offered for sale in the mill shop, while the mill garden is a very attractive place to have a snack.

From seed to oil and from grain to flour

There are few things more impressive than watching and hearing a mill at work, while smelling the nutty warm aroma in the oil pressing room and the incomparable smells of fresh natural products. The pumpkinseed oil production in the oil mill, flour production in the grain mill or the demonstration of the hydroelectric generator can all be visited either separately or together. The power generator plant is the focus here with its Francis and Kaplan turbines. Afterwards, guests can relax and taste some of the delicious mill products in the comfortable Miller’s Lounge or in the romantic mill garden. In special guided tours of their own, children set out in search of the 800 year old mill ghost Ferdinand.

The seal of quality was awarded on 11 July 2012.
