Steiner1888 is a family enterprise. As the name reveals, it was established in 1888 and today embodies well over a century of tradition. The company is a byword for 100 % natural products and supplies many of the most famous international fashion houses with the finest
quality loden cloth. Firms such as Gössl, Lodenfrey, Mothwurf, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry and Gucci are among our customers. An inspection of our 120 years old hammer fulling machine is a major feature of the tour. This machine is still used today to make our famous Schladminger Loden, remarkable for enormous tear resistance and robust qualities. The Steiner1888 woollen blanket, which we produce in the firm ourselves from the finest raw wool, gradually transforming it into an irresistibly soft product, is used far beyond the borders of Austria.

Steiner1888, our world of wool offers a highly interesting glimpse behind the scenes for all our guests, revealing the secrets of the complex manufacturing process behind high-quality loden cloth and Steiner1888 blankets. We understand the importance of expertise, generations of experience and a love of detail. Our 3D cinema, the information monitors next to the machines, and the touch points ensure that visitors not only understand our complex production processes for loden, but also have the opportunity to touch and experience the different stages of this remarkable cloth – all the way from the raw wool to the fine finished products.
